Fighting Period Poverty in CA Schools

In partnership with the Young Women’s Freedom Center (YWFC), Free the Period, Planned Parenthood Mar Monte (PPMM) and others, AFG advocated for period product access through schools and resource centers in California. Our advocacy resulted in a $1 million allocation for period product distribution by the Santa Clara Board of Supervisors and our model for addressing period poverty supported advocacy for state bill AB 367 which was signed into law in 2021 requiring all public schools serving students in grades 6 to 12, Community Colleges, and California State Universities to stock restrooms with an adequate supply of free menstrual products, commencing in the 2022-23 school year.
